This vertical grip (S/N 2D0034xx) is probably the single most useful accessory for the A99. It replicates most of the rear controls of the camera as well as shutter release and front control wheel while you shoot in the vertical (portrait) orientation.
Furthermore, the additional grip allows you to hold your camera comfortably as if shooting in the horizontal (landscape) orientation. No more “Twister” with one arm wrapped over your head while you shoot in the vertical position.
The grip holds two info-Lithium batteries for double the shooting capacity of the body alone. (not included)
The grip only weighs about 11 ounces (without batteries) so it does not add a significant weight to your shooting experience. Furthermore, all controls are weather and dust sealed.
